Her father served in U.S. service in Italy. The mid-1990s saw her begin doing professional dance and performance at the Boulder Dinner Theatre in Colorado and Country Dinner Playhouse. She then moved to Minnesota and was made a part of Drop Dead Gorgeous, a mock documentarian film about beauty contests. When she made her screen debut as a cute but serious contestant she moved into Los Angeles to pursue an acting career. She appeared in a range of films that became popular over the decade that followed, including Alfred Hitchcock's Psycho (from the year 1960) and Living It Up (1954) with Martin Lewis.
